Bank of South Sudan and AFRACA discuss green finance readiness for financial institutions
The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of South Sudan met the AFRACA Secretariat in Nairobi on 16 September 2026, on the margins of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Association of African Central Banks, hosted by the Central Bank of Kenya during its sixtieth anniversary week. Ms. Ngo B. Anny Caroll, Secretary General of the African Rural and Agricultural Credit Association, received the delegation at the Secretariat's offices at the CBK Institute of Monetary Studies.
The two institutions exchanged views on financial inclusion, institutional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and wider access to financial services for rural and productive sectors.
Green finance readiness
The Secretary General presented green finance readiness among AFRACA's priorities. Accessing climate finance takes more than awareness; it takes financial institutions that can manage climate risk and prepare bankable projects. The presentation outlined what readiness involves:
- Climate-risk management and integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards
- Project preparation, monitoring and reporting
- A pipeline of bankable climate-smart agriculture and rural investments
It set out the role central banks can play through regulatory guidance, market development, data, supervisory dialogue and convening. AFRACA supports its members with readiness assessments, training, product development and links to climate finance partners. A Green Finance Fund is among AFRACA's 2026 initiatives.
Follow-up
The meeting closed on the four steps proposed to each central bank: a focal point at the bank; one priority where collaboration can begin; the national institutions to connect with AFRACA; and a practical next step.
